-- This 11 page color booklet covers the basics of what you need to do to open a Yahoo! Store / Merchant Solutions account. The six steps are research and planning, building our store, setting up an online payment processing option, publishing your order settings, complete the open for business checklist, and tracking your progress and revising your business plan.
To me, it looks like this document was the precursor to the big honking downloadable Yahoo! Store Building Guide, but the guide is current enough to include the new Paypal info, so maybe it's new...
- Yahoo recommends doing a little keyword research on the competition using the Yahoo search engine to see what products they sell and examine their business model and promotional strategy.
- The guide also recommends sketching out a site map before you start building your store (I never do this but creating a site map is a pretty good idea).
- Next, it suggests that you select a store building tool: either the Store Editor (yes!) or Store Tags (boo! hiss!)
- Finally, Yahoo recommends that you gather product information like brochures and such from manufacturers and distributors.
Yahoo recommends that your store looks legit so that your merchant bank providers will approve your After looking at your web site. That sounds like a pretty good idea. Don't apply for a merchant account until your published Yahoo! Store looks good.
Honestly, it's kind of hard to cover everything you need to do in 382 pages (much less 11), but this PDF is a great list of resources with clickable links to Yahoo! Store help files and other downloadable resources.
New merchants or prospective Yahoo! Store owners should download this file, print out a copy to make reading that much easier, and use the PDF as a source of links to the best of Paul's most excellent help files. Howdy, Paul! -- r
